Our Doctors
Dr. Kirkpatrick
A family man, Dr. Kirkpatrick, has been married to his wife Kim for over 39 years, has two grown boys, two grandsons and a Cairn Terrier. He is an avid Badger, Packer, Brewer, and Bucks fan and enjoys travel and the outdoors. Dr. Kirkpatrick and Door Creek Dental often participate in charitable endeavors such as mission trips in Guatemala, Give Kids a Smile, Mission of Mercy, and other philanthropic dental events. He has a career long commitment to continuing education and friendly patient care.
Dr. Scott Kirkpatrick was born in the “flatland” of Illinois. Growing up in the Elgin area, he and his family often vacationed in Wisconsin, and that is how he developed his desire to become a “Cheese Head.” His college career consisted of a B.S. in Biology with a minor in Chemistry from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville in 1981. He later received his D.M.D from the School of Dental Medicine at SIU Edwardsville in 1990. He spent an extra year completing a General Practice Residency at the V.A. Hospital in Milwaukee. After working at a general practice for several years in Janesville, Dr. Kirkpatrick joined Dr. Paul Appel, DDS on the east side of Madison in 1994. Later he took over the practice upon Dr. Appel’s retirement in 1997, which is now known as Door Creek Dental. Dr. Kirkpatrick had officially become a “Cheese Head.”

History
Thank you for taking time to learn more about Door Creek Dental.
Our practice has roots that reach back to the mid 1960’s. Dr. Paul Appel arrived in Madison from the University of Iowa and started his practice on Monona Drive. He became well known in Monona and the east side of Madison for his high quality of dentistry and for his ability to bring patients out of the “Dark Age” of dentistry, when fear was the overriding feeling of the experience. He taught people how they could maintain their teeth for a lifetime and helped them to do it in a caring, fear-free manner.
His practice moved to Cottage Grove Rd in Madison in the mid-70’s, where he continued to treat people with respect and compassion. In 1994, Dr. Scott Kirkpatrick began to work with Dr. Appel and became owner in 1997 with his retirement. We still happily treat patients that have been coming here for over forty-eight years!
After more than twenty-one years at the practice, Dr. Kirkpatrick with Dr. To-Schwalbach and a wonderful, caring staff maintain the same philosophy: to offer high-quality dentistry with compassion for every one of our patients. Here in our current office since 2004, we pride ourselves in using up-to-date technology and techniques to treat our patients. However, it is the relationships that we develop with our patients that gives us the most pride in what we do.
