Going GREEN at Door Creek Dental

Here at Door Creek Dental we are very conscious about our environment.

When a patient needs a filling because of decay there are two ways to fill the tooth. The patient can choose to have a composite filling or an amalgam filling. The composite filling is a mixture of glass or quartz filler in a resin medium that produces a tooth-colored filling. An amalgam filling is a stable alloy made by combining mercury, silver, tin, copper and possibly other metallic elements. Although dental amalgam continues to be a safe material and used often, some concern has been raised because of its mercury content. However, the mercury in amalgam combines with other metals to render it stable and safe for use in filling teeth. Our government is concerned that any loose particles disposed of improperly by dental offices can end up our lakes. Door Creek Dental is continuing to help our environment by using an amalgam separator incorporated in our suction system so when amalgam is removed from the tooth it is contained in a separate container. This container is then disposed of using the regulated guidelines.

Door Creek Dental is also an office that recycles. We try to recycle everything that can be recycled. All of our light fixtures are fluorescent so we are conserving as much energy as possible. We have taken this an extra step and have become a mostly paperless office. We record all of our findings on our dental software thus eliminating excess paper use.

We, along with all of you, value our planet and are trying to do our part to conserve it as much as we can for future generations to come.
